Paolo Schianchi: From 6 to 49 Strings

Meet Paolo Schianchi of Parma, Italy and his fascinating guitars. From 6 to 49 Strings is a journey through centuries and instruments - from the Classical period, to the present day, through experimental instruments, such as the unique 49­ string guitar which Paolo has designed. Paolo will perform on some of the most important varieties of the guitar (classical, jazz, electric, acoustic), talking about the incredible and fascinating stories behind the music he will perform. Classical music, jazz, blues, world music and many other musical nuances, from Bach to The Beatles, all in one performance. Reception to follow.

Rick Smith: A Land Remembered

The Lake Wales Library Association and Lake Wales Arts Council present Rick Smith, son of the late Patrick Smith (best-selling author of the beloved Florida historical tale, A Land Remembered). Mr. Smith will deliver a lecture-style talk overviewing the history and stories encompassed in his father’s bestselling novel. Updike Hall, 7:00 p.m. No admission charge

La Florida exhibit: Blair Updike & Kerry Vosler

  • Lake Wales Arts Center

Tampa based artist Kerry Vosler has been collaborating with local Flamenco Dancers to create historic representational paintings depicting the art form of Classical Spanish Flamenco. Additionally, she creates luminous plein air vignettes of Floridian classics like magnolias and citrus. Highland Park based oil painter, and 8th generation Floridian, Blair Petersen Updike’s compositions highlight Florida icons -- Cabbage Palms, Crackers, Seminoles, and citrus. Included in the exhibit are history paintings, depictions of the native and cultivated landscapes, and portraits of the people who abide there. Michael Crews Gallery. No admission charge.
