The Lake Wales Arts Council is proud to announce our 2018 - 2019 Tom Bishop Education Initiative!
The Vision
The Tom Bishop Education Initiative (TBEI) is an extensive education plan aiming to supply performing and visual arts services for Lake Wales and the greater Polk County area. These arts services will provide our residents the opportunity to experience top-tier music and visual arts education at an affordable cost.
The History
Our Education Initiative embodies the standard of excellence put forth by revered music educator Tom Bishop during his time as the band director of Lake Wales High School. Mr. Bishop was the band director from 1957-1970. During his tenure, he amassed over 26 superior ratings at district and state music contests. He was inducted into the Florida Bandmasters Association Hall of Fame in 1992 and was a beloved member of the Lake Wales community.
