Ukulele

Do you dig ukuleles? Do you have one that’s gathering dust, or have you always wanted to learn to play? Or maybe you have some skills, but just need accountability? Whether you’re a rank beginner, or have been “tiptoeing through the tulips” for years, come by and jam with us! We’ll be covering basics as far as technique, finger picking and strumming styles, and learning songs both old and new…singing along is always welcome, but not a class requirement!

Dates/Times: Tuesdays, 6:15-7:15pm, October 3 - December 26

Location: Lake Wales Arts Council, 1099 State Road 60 E, Lake Wales

Open to all levels; this is a multi-session class

Supplies needed for class:
- A ukulele
- Paper / notebook
- Writing implement for notes

About the Instructor:
Maribeth Mundell has been singing professionally since the age of 17, where she got her start as a pre-show performer at the Coachlight Dinner Theater in East Windsor, CT. Her styles range from Opera to Broadway, from rock to country, jazz to standards. Credits include the concert version of Philips Springer’s musical based on Chaim Potok’s “The Chosen” at Merkin Hall, soprano soloist for the New York Women’s Choir, and select soprano for both the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Choir and the New York Symphony choir in New York City. She has performed in one-woman shows based on the music of Rosemary Clooney, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter, and was a soloist in a tribute to the Gershwins at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts center. In addition, she created the character of the daughter in Stephen Dickman’s “The Violin Maker”, and was a featured soprano soloist with the Island Consort and Madrigal Singers. On Long Island, New York, Maribeth performed as a soloist as well as a member of The Sopranos, a standards-based womens’ duo, with several guitarist and wedding / cover bands whose music ranged from Motown to dance music of today, and wrote and performed original music with the Lesus Mor band. She holds a B.A. with a focus in music from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY, with credits from NYU, and teaches music at the R. Clem Churchwell Elementary School in Lakeland.. She presides over general music, world percussion, chorus, musical theater, and ukulele. She is also a percussion, voice, and ukulele instructor for Sandy’s MusicGirls, and has been a music instructor for the summer camp here at the Lake Wales Arts Council. In addition, Maribeth privately teaches voice and ukulele, and works as a professional voice over artist.
